TASTER EVENING / OPEN REHEARSAL

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2026 7:30pm

We would love to see new singers come along and discover the joy of singing in our Choral Society. You will be assured a warm and friendly welcome.

We do not audition, and we do not limit our numbers – all are welcome to join us. We do not keep a waiting list.

We start our rehearsals at 7.30pm in the United Reformed Church, at 1 Jesu Street, Ottery St. Mary, EX11 1EU. There is ample parking in the nearby Sainsbury’s car park, which is free of charge in the evenings.

We sing from printed music. You will be given a copy for the evening, which if you decide you like it and want to join us, you can sign out and take home for rehearsal. Your neighbours will soon grow to love it too.

If you are a rusty returner, or an enthusiastic amateur not strong on reading music, please don’t worry. You will be surrounded by people who will be very willing to help, and usually at these early rehearsals we pick our way through the music in short bites.

If you are a more confident or experienced singer, we would love to have your voice with us. Even though we are a non-auditioning choir with a range of experience and abilities, we pride ourselves on getting the whole choir to performance standard, together as a team.

Our choir sings some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging music. We think we rise to that challenge pretty well.

This term we are starting with John Rutter’s Magnificat, which premiered on the 26th of May 1990 at New York’s Carnegie Hall. If you are not familiar with it, there are dozens of great YouTube performances, and live and studio albums on Spotify.

So come along, spend an evening with us and see what we do, with no obligations. We would love you to join us.
